Can I participate in both the fall and spring cohorts?

No. The material covered in both cohorts will be the same.

 

Can multiple educators from the same organization participate?

Yes. Multiple people from the same organization may participate; however, the focus will be on their individual practice.

 

Do I have to attend each meeting?

Yes. The meetings build on each other and collective knowledge is a key component of this community, so participants are expected to attend each meeting in the agreed upon modality. Additionally, the meetings will not be recorded. The dates and times are tentative, please still complete the application even if you are not available for 1 or 2 of the dates.

 

What is a sliding scale?

A sliding scale allows for those that can pay more to cover the cost of those that need to pay less. Each person has the option to pay between $400 and $600. If cost is an issue, please email professionaldevelopment@eliecircle.com.

 

Who is responsible for paying?

Ultimately, individual educators are responsible for paying the cost. However, organizations may also pay for their staff members to participate. 

 

Can I pay monthly?

No. The payment is due prior to participating in the community.

 

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. You will receive a certificate with a link to your e-portfolio. At this time the community is not associated with a university and CEUs are not available. We hope to offer these benefits in the future.

 

What is an e-portfolio? 

An e-portfolio is an opportunity for educators to share their process and learnings online. The e-portfolios will be hosted on the eliecircle.com website. More information will be shared later.

 

How many people will be accepted into each cohort?

There will be a max of 10 people accepted into each cohort. However, there must be at least 4 people for the cohort to occur.

 

When will I find out if I’m accepted?

The goal is to inform participants of a decision by August 23, 2022 for the fall cohort and December 23, 2022 for the spring cohort.

 

Do I have to live in Pittsburgh, PA to participate?

Participants must live within 2 hours of Pittsburgh, PA to participate. 

 

What are the technology requirements?

Participants will need access to a device (computer is recommended) with internet connection. Zoom will be used for online meetings. Additionally, all participants will register for a free account on eliecircle.com to access materials and the online discussion boards. 

 

Do I need to purchase books?

No. Any readings will be provided.

 

Can I participate if…

1) I am a teacher in a school?

You may apply to participate; however, those in child- and youth-serving organizations will be prioritized. Additionally, the materials are designed for those in child- and youth-serving organizations.

2) I am not working directly with young people of Color?

No. At this time, in order to participate you will need to be working directly with young people in any capacity (e.g., volunteer, intern part-time, full-time) to fully participate.

3) I work primarily with White young people?

Yes. As long as you work with at least 1 young person of Color, you will be considered.

4) I have more than 5 years experience in child- and youth-serving organizations?

You may apply to participate; however, those with 5 years or less experience will be prioritized. Additionally, the materials are designed for those with 5 years or less experience.
